- HISTORY
- Haskell was designed by a committee of researchers formed at the 1987 Functional Programming Languages and Computer Architecture conference in Portland, Oregon. At the time there were many similar lazy, purely functional languages, and the group wanted one open standard for research and teaching. The first version of the Haskell report appeared in 1990. The language is named after the logician Haskell Curry, and its type classes and monadic I/O went on to influence many other languages.
- USAGE
- Haskell remains popular in programming language research and teaching, and has a committed niche in industry, notably in finance, compilers and blockchain projects. Well-known tools written in it include Pandoc and ShellCheck.
