HISTORY
Brendan Eich created JavaScript at Netscape in May 1995, writing the first prototype in about ten days. Netscape wanted a lightweight scripting language for its Navigator browser that would appeal to non-professional programmers. Called Mocha and then LiveScript, it was renamed JavaScript as a marketing move to ride Java's popularity, although the two languages are unrelated. It was standardised as ECMAScript in 1997 and has evolved steadily since.
USAGE
The most widely used programming language in the world and the only one built into every web browser. Through Node.js and other runtimes it is also used for servers, tooling, desktop and mobile apps.
