- HISTORY
- James Strachan announced Groovy on his blog in August 2003, wanting a dynamic language for the Java platform with the conciseness of Python and Ruby. Groovy compiles to JVM bytecode and interoperates seamlessly with Java, and most Java code is also valid Groovy. Strachan soon moved on, and Guillaume Laforge led the project for many years. It joined the Apache Software Foundation in 2015, becoming Apache Groovy.
- USAGE
- Groovy is mostly used as an embedded scripting and DSL language in the Java world: Gradle build scripts, Jenkins pipelines and the Spock testing framework. Its use as a general-purpose application language has declined.
