- HISTORY
- Guido van Rossum started Python as a hobby project over the 1989 Christmas holidays at CWI, the Dutch national research institute for mathematics and computer science in Amsterdam. He wanted a successor to ABC, a teaching language he had worked on, that could also script the Amoeba distributed operating system. The name is a nod to Monty Python's Flying Circus, not the snake. Van Rossum led the language as its "Benevolent Dictator For Life" until 2018, when he stepped down after a heated debate over the walrus operator.
- USAGE
- One of the most popular programming languages in the world. Python is the lingua franca of data science, machine learning and scientific computing, and is widely used for web backends, automation, DevOps tooling and teaching programming.
