HISTORY
CFML is the language of ColdFusion, which brothers J. J. and Jeremy Allaire released in 1995 through their company, Allaire Corporation. At a time when dynamic web pages usually meant writing CGI programs, ColdFusion let web developers query databases and generate HTML by mixing tags such as cfquery and cfoutput into ordinary pages. ColdFusion was acquired by Macromedia in 2001 and by Adobe in 2005. A script syntax resembling JavaScript, CFScript, was later added alongside the tags.
USAGE
A niche, largely legacy web language still found in enterprise and government intranets. It is maintained commercially by Adobe and as open source by the Lucee project.
