- HISTORY
- Danish computer scientist Bjarne Stroustrup began work on "C with Classes" at Bell Labs in 1979. During his PhD at Cambridge he had enjoyed Simula's classes but found it too slow, so he set out to add similar abstractions to C without giving up its efficiency. The language was renamed C++ in 1983, a pun on C's increment operator, and was released commercially in 1985 alongside his book "The C++ Programming Language". It was first standardised by ISO in 1998.
- USAGE
- One of the most widely used languages, especially where performance matters: game engines, web browsers, databases, trading systems, embedded devices, scientific computing and large desktop applications.
